Geothermal Heating and Cooling

Heat and cool your home with power from the earth

Beneath the dirt in your backyard is an untapped energy source that is both renewable and free — the earth. Instead of using oil or gas, geothermal heat pumps harness the earth’s energy to heat and cool your home. It’s the most energy-efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective HVAC system on the market. Jacobs Heating & Air Conditioning is proud to be at the forefront of emerging energy technology. We install Carrier® geothermal heat pumps designed to offer superior comfort and savings.

Amazingly Comfortable, Supremely Efficient

Heating, cooling, and hot water combined make up about 70% of total energy costs for most homes. That means the potential for reducing energy use is huge. No other HVAC system has lower operating costs than geothermal heat pumps. They offer savings up to 60% compared to traditional systems. But the benefits of geothermal don’t stop there.

How Do Geothermal Heat Pumps Work?

Originally developed in the mid 19th century, geothermal heat pumps are an ingenious system. More recent technological advancements have made them more effective than ever before. If you’re wondering how they work, let us explain.

How They Save Energy

Geothermal heat pumps don’t burn fossil fuels. Instead of using oil or gas to generate heat (like a furnace) they use electricity to move heat that’s already present in the ground or inside your house. By using the earth as a heat source — and a heat sink — geothermal systems can operate at 400% to 500% efficiency, leaving you and your wallet a lot more comfortable.

How They Heat and Cool Your Home

Pipes are installed in the ground to transfer heat from the earth into your home. Pulling heat from the ground in the dead of winter might sound impossible but ground temperatures actually stay more stable than air. In the summer your heat pump can switch direction at the press of a button. In cooling mode your system removes heat from your house and dumps it into the earth outside.

Pick the Perfect System for Your Home

A geothermal heat pump installation isn’t right for everyone. Jacobs consultants are trained to evaluate your house so we can recommend the best system for you. We start by examining your home’s insulation, window locations, sun exposure, ceiling heights, and outdoor layout. Other considerations include potential allergy concerns and the number of people and pets in your home. Before we present you with choices, we will talk with you to understand your specific goals for price, efficiency, and comfort. We always recommend premium geothermal systems from Carrier®, the industry’s innovation leader.
