Our History: Who We Are and Where We Came From

Our story begins in 1952 at a WWII-era government blimp factory in Tillamook, Oregon. War efforts were winding down, and brothers Basil and Lawrence Jacobs decided to turn their sheet-metal fabrication expertise from supporting the troops abroad to supporting returned servicemen and their families at home. The brothers moved to Portland and started Jacobs Sheet Metal. They helped families modernize their homes with the latest heating technology — home oil and gas furnaces.

Business skyrocketed in the 1960s when Jacobs expanded into the commercial HVAC market. With the oil boom in the 70s and heightened environmental concerns, opportunities presented themselves all along the West Coast. In the 80s, Lawrence turned his focus to Jacobs’ second location in Richland, Washington while Basil took the helm in Portland.

Two of Basil’s four sons, Brent and Greg, joined their father in business. Brent and Greg refocused energy back to the residential roots of Jacobs. They developed the networking, lead generation, and renowned customer follow-up system we use today.

Brent continues to lead as president of Jacobs Heating & Air Conditioning. His two daughters, Amanda and Molly, have become the third generation of the Jacobs family to put their skills to work for the Jacobs team. Amanda came on board in 2016 and Molly joined in 2020.

With more than 100 employees, we work hard everyday to deliver the best service, the best quality, and the best value on the planet. Just as our founder did on day one.
